A lot of energy service providers allow you to switch to green energy. This can help you reduce your carbon footprint and make all your in-home electricity usage guilt-free! So, I went on a path to figure out how to do this and how much it would cost me - and I was so surprised by what I found!
If you’re like me - you never went out of your way to choose your energy service provider and just signed up for the default, through PECO. Currently I pay 6.6 Cents per kWh. I was under the impression that green energy would be more expensive - but SURPRISE! Switching to green energy would actually SAVE money! At 6.13 cents per kWh, I could not only have a more sustainable source of energy but pay less too. Over the course of the year - i would save $15 and have a green source of energy!
Here is how you can switch:
1. Research your options.
This website has straightforward options. Just enter your zip code and it will help you figure out the best options for you. It will give you 3 options: the cheapest provider, the best green provider and the best plan that includes home security. https://electricityrates.com/
2. Understand your options.
There are terms and conditions, and a length of the plan. The easiest way to understand what it means and the cancellation fees is to call the number listed below it. When I called the number, they picked up immediately and were super helpful.
3. Sign up.
Assuming you have online access, you can go to your portal and update your service provider. I called them on their customer service line and was signed up in under 5 minutes.
4. Enjoy your green power <3
